Set in park-like
grounds, Karamea House features a sweeping driveway, gardens with
fishponds, paddocks and groves of native trees. Built in colonial
style from native kauri, matai and rimu, Karamea House is based on the
historical design of Kemp House, the oldest wooden building in
New Zealand, with deep verandas and spacious interiors. Karamea House is private and secluded, yet less than 2km from the main State
Highway and a 10-minute drive north of Whangarei. On-site facilities include outdoor swimming and spa pools
and an all-weather Astroturf tennis court. Breakfasts at Karamea House
often include freshly squeezed orange juice, French toast with
bacon, banana and maple syrup.
